Art Reproduction on Canvas |

Art is a fashion business. Have you noticed that the preferred substrate or medium upon which art imagery is applied is often canvas vs. paper?
Even open edition prints are being printed on canvas. Because the printing edition size of the images are unlimited in supply, they are very reasonable in cost, unlike the giclees or serigraph reproductions which are limited editions.
Take a look at the botanicals pictured, below, left. They are photographic reproductions by B. Leighton. The images can be ordered through your local frame shop sized to the customer's specifications. These are printed on canvas and museum wrapped; stretched over 2.5" stretcher bars, stapled on the back, with sides carefully painted black. The look is simple and the price very reasonable.
Because not all publishers print to order, another approach is to use the process of transferring an open edition paper print to canvas. It's called canvas transfer and is also very effective way to have the original look that we all desire. Not only are canvas transfers beautiful, but they are very cost effective, and look amazing framed or museum wrapped.

Problem: "I love the small plaques that are available now. They come in many designs but all have the same format, unframed and of the same size. What is the best way to arrange them?"
Solution: This type of wall décor is “hot” now. It is often unframed such as the wrapped canvas pieces I mentioned in the first article, and comes in every style. Do not place them in several areas in the room or home.
I recommend hanging these together as a “set” preferably on one wall. Keep the finished size of the grouping in proportion with the rest of the room décor. They will make a strong statement! Aren’t these images from Valerie Wilson, wonderful! |
